How to Fix Software Errors and Crashes on Your PC

Software errors, freezing apps, or sudden crashes can bring your productivity to a halt. Whether it’s a stubborn Windows error or an application that refuses to open, here are 5 easy ways to troubleshoot and fix the problem without needing a new computer.

1. Restart the Application or Your PC

It may sound simple, but many software issues are resolved with a fresh reboot. Restart the program, and if that doesn’t work, restart your PC to clear memory and system glitches.

2. Update the Problem Software

Outdated software is a common cause of crashes. Open the app and check for updates—or visit the developer’s website to download the latest version.

3. Run the Program as Administrator

Right-click on the application and choose “Run as administrator.” Some software needs elevated privileges to access system files and run properly.

4. Reinstall the Software

If the error persists, uninstall the program completely using “Apps & Features” in Windows Settings. Then reinstall it from a trusted source to fix corrupted files.

5. Check for System Corruption

Use built-in Windows tools to scan for deeper problems. Open Command Prompt as admin and run:

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
SFC /scannow

These commands repair system files that may be causing application instability.
